The Chinese gender chart: does it work?
No. Tested on 2,840,755 Swedish births, the Chinese gender chart did no better than a coin toss. How it’s read, where it came from, and what works instead.

At-home gender blood tests: how accurate, and what a scan adds
At-home kits look for a boy’s DNA in your blood. Makers claim 99% or more from 6 or 7 weeks (2026); a 2011 review found lab tests before 7 weeks unreliable.

Gender disappointment: why it happens and what helps
Gender disappointment is sadness or guilt about your baby’s sex. Charities call it common, and it doesn’t mean you won’t love your baby. What helps.

Blood test or ultrasound: which gender result do you trust?
In the first trimester, the NIPT blood test is surer than a scan for sex. Later, medical scans are highly accurate too. Mismatch? Tell your doctor or midwife.

Legs crossed at the gender scan: does it mean a girl?
No. Crossed legs only hide the view, and we found no study linking a baby’s leg position to its sex. What sonographers do, and whether drinks or a walk help.
Gender determination
Skull theory: can head shape tell boy or girl?
There’s no evidence head shape on a 12-week scan shows boy or girl. The skull differences skull theory points to develop mainly at or after puberty.
Gender determination
Nub theory: how it works and how accurate it is
Nub theory guesses the sex from which way a bump between the legs points at about 12 weeks. Calls got surer by week 13 in studies; online guesses are unproven.
Gender determination
Does the baby’s heart rate predict boy or girl?
No. A 2023 review of 5 studies, covering 4,308 babies, found no significant difference between boys’ and girls’ heart rates in the first trimester.
Gender determination
Ramzi theory: does placenta position predict the sex?
Not reliably. Ramzi theory links a right-sided placenta at 6 weeks to a boy, but later studies haven’t matched its 97% claim, and scan pictures can flip sides.
Gender determination
Can you find out the gender at 12 weeks?
Sometimes, but it’s an early guess. In a London study of 524 women, 75% of all babies scanned at 12 weeks got a correct call, against 90% at 14 weeks.
